Robert Holmes

Robert Holmes is an environmental specialist with an academic background to doctorate level in geology and geochemistry. He is an IEMA Principal Environmental Auditor. He worked in the waste management industry for 11 years from 1975 managing Cleanaway’s environmental team. He then worked for 15 years from 1985 to the end of 1998 in senior positions in the environmental consultancies URS Corporation, Enviros, Environmental Strategies and Arcadis. He established Holmes Environmental Limited in early-1999.

He has worked in a wide range of industry types in a large number of countries world-wide. He has extensive experience of managing Phase II site investigations in the field and in conducting Phase I environmental site assessments in property transactions. He has designed and implemented management programmes in a number of industry sectors to ISO14001 certification standard and he has been involved in many in-house environmental compliance assurance audits for several global manufacturing corporations. He has acquired waste management licences and IPC authorisations and has liaised with regulators in the acquisition and amendment of conditions. He has designed and presented environmental training, awareness raising and capacity building programmes in industry and for United Nations Environment Programme.

Roberto Vogel

Roberto Vogel is a mechanical engineer who has been working as an independent environmental consultant since late-1993. He launched the process engineering and environmental management consultancy WISenvironmental in mid-2009 extending the services offered over the previous 15 years by VWIS. Prior to this he worked for the plant manufacturer Von Roll of Switzerland. He has extensive technical knowledge and practical experience on the erection and commissioning of large Energy from Waste plants incorporating advanced gas cleaning equipment in several European countries. Experience also includes formal operator training at these plants.

He has undertaken projects on air emissions and sludge drying in the UK and Europe. He acted in the key technical role on a DFID sponsored project to develop a low cost municipal waste incinerator for use in developing countries.

Brian Gulley

Brian Gulley is a mechanical engineer by background. He is a waste management practitioner with considerable experience in the design of waste management facilities, particularly transfer stations, materials recovery facilities and waste derived fuel plants and an extensive knowledge of collection, treatment, recycling and disposal of household and commercial waste in the UK and abroad in both the public and private sectors.

His experience includes the preparation of tender documents, tendering, tender evaluation and environmental permit applications.

Owen Clingan

Owen Clingan is a Member of the Institute of Acoustics. He specializes in the assessment of the environmental impact of noise arising from road, rail & air transport, industry and construction sites, employing on-site monitoring techniques and approved predictive methods, particularly in connection with residential development.

His experience includes over two hundred assessments of the impacts of noise on proposed residential developments, including monitoring, the use of traffic flow data, the calculation of propagation and facade transmission losses, the outline design of acoustic barriers and liaison with local authorities.

Michael Betts

Michael Betts has over 25 years experience in the field of environmental management and protection. An economist by training, his experience lies particularly in the planning, financial / economic appraisal, organisation and management of wastewater and waste management related projects.

He has supervised a large number of waste management studies around the world, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle and Far East. In addition, he has been responsible for planning and managing numerous major Environmental Impact Assessments and audits, and has extensive experience of developing and implementing the Quality Management System ISO 9001 and Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001.
