Plans to Launch GVH Environmental in 2009
Plans are being developed to launch the regional environmental consultancy GVH Environmental early in 2009 from a Loseley Farm headquarters in Guildford. The consultancy will provide environmental and resource management services primarily to SMEs in Surrey and adjacent counties. CP Associates Ltd is providing business development and marketing support to the venture.

Initial and Re-Certification Audits Completed at 10 DHL Service Centres
Initial audits for ISO14001 certification were conducted on 4 ‘Sameday’ sites, 3 of which are situated in west, north and east London and recertification audits were carried out on 6 ‘Express’ sites principally in the Midlands. A total of 17 DHL sites have now been audited in the past two years.

EMS Re-Certification Audit at London Fire Brigade
Acting under sub-contract with DNV Certification a recertification audit was completed for the Procurement Group based at the London Fire Brigade HQ in Southwark. This included site visits to the Protective Equipment Group, Hose & Line in Croydon and the Brigade Distribution Centre at a separate location in Croydon. Recertification was recommended.

DNV Sub-Contractors’ Meeting
A meeting of DNV Certification sub-contractors delivering ISO9001, 14001 and 18001 certification services took place in Southwark. This forum regularly meets to be informed of updates in procedures and administration. On this occasion procedural changes were presented following DNV’s recent accreditation by UKAS to ISO17021 ‘Requirements for Bodies providing Audit and Certification of Management Systems’. These include the need to outline the customer’s proposed actions (auditable) to close-out non-conformities identified during an audit.

Compliance Audit at Bio-Polymer Facility in Cork, Ireland
An internal environmental audit was carried out at the manufacturing operations of a US owned bio-polymer facility in Cork, Ireland. The Company principal was engaged by ENSR UK to provide support to the team and to bring Knowledge of regulations in Ireland and the EU.

Periodic Audits Completed at Landfills and Transfer Stations
Day-long periodic audits were carried out on 4 landfills, a material recycling facility and 2 transfer stations in London, Essex and the Thames Valley. Three of the landfills are large accepting between 600,000 tonnes and 800,000 tonnes of waste per year. The project also included auditing the organisation’s laboratory and technical support centre and the material sales department which is responsible for sale of multi-fractionate recyclates as secondary raw materials.

BSI Certify Environmental Management System to ISO14001:2004
BSI certified the environmental management system for W&S Recycling’s Millhams Community Recycling Centre site in Bournemouth to the ISO14001:2004 standard in August 2008. The Company has been involved in the design and implementation of the EMS through participation in the W&S Environmental working Group and since being commissioned to carry out the Initial Environmental Review in January 2007.

Pre-Assessment of Power Generation Equipment Manufacturer in England
Environmental expertise support was provided to a multi-disciplinary team carrying out a pre- assessment of a power generation equipment manufacturer in the Midlands, England. The project was conducted by a major multi-national corporation. The Company principal was engaged by MWH UK to provide support to the team and to bring Knowledge and experience of environmental regulations in the UK and the EU.

Pre-acquisition Assessment of Instrument Manufacturer in Northern Ireland
A pre-acquisition assessment was conducted to identify potential environmental liabilities associated with a measuring instrument manufacturer in Northern Ireland during a multi-disciplinary in-country residential gathering. The project was conducted by a major multi-national corporation. The Company principal was engaged by MWH UK to provide support to the team and to bring Knowledge and experience of environmental regulations in the UK, Northern Ireland and the EU.

Completion of Series of EMS Training Seminars
As a step in the implementation of a certifiable EMS for W&S recycling of Poole, Dorset, a series of training seminars were designed and presented for: firstly, senior managers; secondly, site managers from 5 operational recycling centres and waste transfer stations; and thirdly, internal auditors. An Employee 14001 Handbook and computer-based environmental awareness raising training tools were designed for company staff and sub-contractors.
